O is for Oyster Cookies~

In this months Disney Family Fun Magazine they had this
'Treat of the Month' recipe
for Oyster Cookies called~ 'Pearly Bites'!
I thought this would be a perfect treat to incorporate with learning
about the letter O this week!
The recipe was SUPER easy and I bought all the stuff at the store-
NO BAKING REQUIRED!!!

You simply take Keebler Shortbread Cookies, spread some strawberry flavored icing on one side of a shortbread cookie, top icing off with yogurt covered raisin & then top another shortbread cookie off for the top of the oyster shell.

Use icing to make eyeballs on the top of the oyster- I used tiny tubes of decorating icing in white and purple to make the eyeballs.

They kids loved their 'O' for Oyster Cookies!

We may have to make these cookies again soon, they were eaten up too fast!

(The strawberry flavored icing really complimented the shortbread) MMMMmmmm

If you dont get the Family Fun Magazine here is the recipe:

Pearly Bites Recipe
(Family Fun Mags Treat of the Month)

INGREDIENTS:
Pink frosting
Small, round wafer cookies (I used keebler shortbread)
Yogurt-covered raisins or peanuts
White frosting
Purple or black frosting for pupils

1. To make each oyster, spread a layer of pink frosting on the bottom of a small, round wafer cookie, then gently press a yogurt-covered raisin or peanut on top. Position another cookie as shown, anchoring one edge in the frosting. 2. Dab on white frosting eyes, then use a toothpick dipped in black frosting to add pupils.

Hotdogs from Gretchen Cordy~

The kids and I were out running errands today...
nothing exciting just the usual-
but we had a fun moment while we were out on our errand adventure!

We were listening to the radio and the radio was doing a promo on the very same highway we were driving down giving away chances to win waterpark
tickets as well as giving away free LUNCH-hotdogs, chips and drinks!
Well, mommy wanted to win those WATERPARK TICKETS for her bebes!
So we decided to stop and enter the contest.
While we were there Gretchen Cordy- Alum from 'SURVIVOR' (TV SHOW)
served my kiddos free hotdogs, chips and bottled water.
Gretchen even complimented my kids for choosing the water over the variety of
coke products they had to offer...(Im such a proud mommy!)

Well we didnt win the tickets to the waterpark that day but
the kids did get free lunch and was served very nicely by
Miss Gretchen Cordy herself!
Thanks Gretchen for being soo nice to my kiddos!!!

The Garden of Abundance~

He who plants a garden plants happiness.-
My husband wanted to start a garden this year and so
I helped him pick out a spot in the yard for it
and I suggested things I would like if he wanted to grow them...
and then he went to work!

I'm actually amazed at how well his garden turned out!
He planted corn, yellow squash, zucchini, banana peppers,
green peppers, bradley tomatos, strawberries and some cucumbers.

Here is a green pepper growing away~

The zucchini grows over night!
We have been eating LOADS of fresh steamed zucchini
and I have made a few loaves of tasty zucchini bread as well~
(The recipe is super delicious and yummy warm with butter-
I will have to add the recipe on another blog post its that good!!)
Oooh and I made Paula Deens Squash Casserole recipe from
her book of recipes I copied from my grandmother...
its sooo yummy and if your needing a good squash casserole
try this recipe one day, its great for Thanksgiving too!
heres the link to it online:
http://www.pauladeen.com/recipe_view/152
The only thing I omit from this recipe is her house seasoning and I just
add salt to taste instead. Im not a pepper fan.
I also like to mash the squash with a masher before I add it to the
baking dish mixed with the other ingredients...this is a yummy recipe!

The Cucumber plants amaze me at how they grab on to things
amd wrap around whatever they can attach to...

We made pickles from this cucumber!!
